Campaign for a Scottish Parliament Briefing Notes

Introducing the pack

This pack was conceived in 1994 in response to requests from members of the Campaign for a set of briefing notes on the history of the CSP, plus a set of key debating points on what a Scottish Parliament could achieve in different areas of national life. Demand for this level of detail has proved much wider, and need for informed debate no less since the election result and White Paper, so these pages have been added to the Website. Some of the documents are now a year or two old, but their content remains relevant and of interest.

This is not a 'one off' production but a rolling programme of Campaigners' Briefing Notes. For example, as part of the update process, inserts 3 and 8 were replaced by a new insert 11, and insert 4 by new insert 15 - this is why there may appear to be pages missing if you work your way through page by page! As additional or revised Notes are produced, they will be posted to this site as well as being distributed through our members' mailing.

If this exercise is to be effective it must be a two-way process. The Executive needs to know the range of topics/policy areas that you want to see covered in future Campaigners' Briefing Notes, and is very keen to hear from members and (and others!) volunteering to produce drafts of further Notes or telling points which can be incorporated in future Notes.

We hope that you will find the pack useful in supporting your activities. The Executive intends to develop it as a body of essential information, both as an internal resource for key persuaders and, in a broader context, to stimulate informed debate in the campaign for Scotland's Parliament.

Using the Briefing Pack online

If your browser supports frames, you will see a menu of the Briefing Notes down the left hand side. You may click on the logo in the top left to return to the main CSP Homepage at any time. If the frames are not visible, click here if you wish to load them.
If you cannot use frames (or prefer not to), you can connect directly to the menu, and return to it using the back and forward navigation arrows on your browser.

Further Notes which are in preparation may be listed in the menu (so you can see what's coming) but, if they are not 'live links' they are not yet available. The Briefing Pack as it currently exists should be fully online by late-June 1997, assuming no technical glitches.

(This Edition May 1996; minor revisions May 1997;
more substantial revisions & additions in preparation)
